CASS
Endowment

An endowment provides a predictable source of funds in perpetuity for CCSS’s many programs and services. The principal of the fund is never used, but earnings from the endowment will go to support services where most needed.

What is an
Endowment?

Nonprofit organizations must find different streams of revenue to fund their missions and work. Besides regular fundraising for operations and special campaigns and projects, one of those revenue streams comes from an endowment.

Make a Lasting
Gift

An endowment is a fund that grows over time. As earnings accrue, they can be used for funding the daily work of an organization like Cass Community Social Services. The idea is that a donor makes a gift to the endowment fund. That gift (principal) is never spent. The earnings from the gift provide a predictable, sustainable revenue stream. As more and more donations are added to the endowment fund, the impact of such giving multiplies year after year in perpetuity.

Ways to Contribute
to the
Endowment

Donors may make an endowment gift in many ways, such as cash and checks; however, there are other ways to make such a gift. A primary way to do this is to name CCSS as a beneficiary of a will or living trust. This is an easy way to ensure that your legacy and intentions will continue for years to come. There are other ways to give, too. Giving appreciated stocks is a popular way to give, thereby avoiding capital gains taxes. Others include naming Cass as a beneficiary of an IRA, life insurance policy, donor-advised fund, or financial account. Additionally, gifts can be received from IRAs to meet the required minimum distribution. When gifts such as these are made, the donor does not pay taxes on that part of the distribution.

Campaign Goal & Impact

$1 Million Goal and Financial Impact

The goal for this campaign is a minimum of $1 million in new endowment funds. That amount, with possible annual earnings of (for example) 5% would yield $50,000 every year in perpetuity to fund the services at CCSS. Higher earnings, of course, would yield more funds. Keep in mind that it is possible to make a gift that is a combination of cash and an asset. We would be happy to help you plan the best way for you to make a gift.

Legacy Society Recognition

Finally, the Legacy Society of Cass Community Social Services is a way to recognize those who have named CCSS in their estate plans. This special group of donors is important to building an endowment fund, and you are invited to explore what membership in the Legacy Society might mean for you.

I have been fortunate to have resources to share with others. I was raised with the understanding that helping others is very important, and I have always supported charities. I have decided to increase my support for Cass and make it one of my most important charities because it is an organization that is local, is large enough to provide major services to people in need, but small enough that I can see tangibly how my financial contributions are benefitting people. I find the strategy and range of services that Cass provides to be unique and can provide long term results to change people’s lives – from medical care, to temporary housing, to permanent housing, to keeping families together, to job training, to recreation activities. Cass is providing a pathway for people who at times had no hope for their lives, to obtain a type of living that most of us take for granted.
